Big rocks go in FIRST…The Long-delayed Round Table of the Five Elements

Yes, you guessed it – I DIDN’T  put this Big Rock in first… 18 years it’s been on

my longtailed back burner agenda… and it should have been one of the first things I built, at Cafe Eutopia.. why? Because it is the symbol of synergy.. social, intellectual and spiritual. It’s actually love articulated – everyone, every different type has a place and respect in the circle of process which shows how opposites are all needed.  Now, at Dreamspace gallery Gisborne, I’m finally just doing it. For gathering of extraordinary minds and hearts to imagine Eutopias, networks, creations, possible humans and communities… resilient adaptive ones that can survive upheaval and chaotic change – which are surely coming…

I’m using the free resource of newsprint roll holders…squares of strong particle board which get put out on the verge every week or so. When we perfect the design I’m thinking I’ll make a file of the shapes for laser or jigsaw cutting and put the plans in an ebook of the Round Table for worldwide availability…

Here are some photos of the surrounding planner boards which echo the five colour of the table. For more on the theory see www.4phase.org

You can just see the four sectors of the round table marked in chalk on the floor,  surrounding the central fifth table (the one pictured is a standing for it. The central one is the Balance , the purple zone of the status quo which feeds us…hence the cutlery! 🙂 Also the golden ring of community on top of the candelabra – it’s a rubber ring I found on the beach… synchronistically… and painted gold. It’s too big for oneperson to wear, it’s flexible and strong, golden and pure like gold and black inside representing the ability of good communities to absorb negativities….

The panels need painting and the holes filled with disks which I rout out of offcuts.. The whiteboards will show all the things we’re working on… the blue outlined one for new inputs, the green for new ideas, yellow for new plans and evaluations, the red for to do lists, and the central purple one for the mind mapping of the status quo of the whole enterprise, updated as new developments happen.

Being me now – everyone else was taken!

Three fifteen is a dangerous time to wake up. If you start thinking it usually goes downhill fast. So you try to go back to sleep.

What if you don’t, but instead look at why your thoughts are gloomy, why your energy is so low?

I did that this morning at around 4 AM, Gisborne time – we’re ahead of the world so maybe I was the first soul to wake this day?? Well apart from the worthy farmers and shift workers. OK the first artist? OK at least the first philosopher! So, I got to thinking… I’m so… blocked. I have a monstrous block. Maybe I need a phsychologist to sort me out. No, I really know what he’d say, and if he didn’t I’d now what he should have said. So why not just do that!? What would a good psychologist say to Peter Harris aka the Wizard of Eutopia? ‘Put up or shut up’. Or what Paulo Coelho’s  Alchemist told the Englishman who wanted to become a real alchemist and not just a book one: ‘TRY!’ Try and transmute that lead into gold. Even if you think you tried before, now, this time, in THIS moment, TRY it.

What did my inner Alchemist tell me to try? What all inner Alchemists tell us all the time if we’d only listen: BE YOURSELF ALREADY! But what is me? Well, what’s my name? wizard of eutopia… hm… wizards do what? Well they change situations, make eutopias happen, catalyse. They’re alchemists of culture, turning the leaden societies about them into gold. They create portals through which people may go into a golden era. They hold a space, they plant a flag, they declare the ancient divine platitudes to a new generation of unbelievers who want the courage to believe them. Hm… haven’t I been there, tried that?

So I need to come out and TRY it AGAIN. Better. Eutopia is a phoenix bird, needs the wizard to revive it. But first he must revive himself.  ‘The kingdom of heaven is within us’. Amen!

SO, my plan is to

1 Get a space (I have one in mind – it’s big and spacious and cheap, here in Gisborne), start communicating with people who come there, have a round table with a phase timer so we remember to do all the dynamic things, in good order, in the divine Balance: 1 Love and listen; 2 Imagine and envision; 3 Reason and plan; 4 Act and communicate. For the logic of this see my www.4phase.org

2 Do my art in that space, and make the ferrocement hobbit havens and other sculptural icons.

3 Maybe open the space to other ‘harvesters, creators and rejoicers’. On the front it will say something like  ‘Eutopia. All welcome’ Or Altars of Art. Names and naming does tie me in knots often, but not this time!

email me wizardofeutopia@gmail.com if you like the  sound of this. If in Gisborne you could join me

So, what has been my biggest, monstrous, block? I think those who know me would agree (?) it’s shyness, this huge reluctance to engage with normal people out there in the normal world. The more I become ME, the weirder and more alien and threatening that ‘normal’ world and those ‘normal’ people seem to become. This morning I got that I am NOT shy per se – just shy of the idea of these implacably normal people, the System they represent that’s the real Monster out to get me, kill my soul, deny my dreams and visions. So it’s simple, really: I get with people who aren’t like that, who do want to be truly alive and think for themselves, and create new things and a better life and a better place. Eutopians… and ‘show them the rainbow and the stairway to the overman’. (thus spake Zarathustra)

Zarathustra’s monster he called the Spirit of Gravity, that mole-dwarf of leaden spirit that denies and drags down. His weapon against it was to fling it off his back and say ‘Stop dwarf!  I! Or you!’ And to show it the endless circle of life and to say Yes to it. I think what really defeated the dwarf was that Zarathustra danced. And that he laughed… like the shepherd in his vision who was choking from a black snake crawling into his throat. He bites off the head and jumps up, no longer a mere mortal but an overcomer, and he laughs. And Nietzsche writes, ‘My longing for this laughter consumes me…’

What is your monster?  When (and how) will you bite its head off and leap up, laughing?

My Qor Philosophy

Well, the big stuff always goes to the background like mountains. We need to climb the darned things or at least one of them,  if we are ever to reach our peak…

So, I was sick yesterday and as often happens to me, I started philosophising with unusual candour. I.e., reckless abandon and self-honesty. At my core, or ‘Qor’ to use my neologism (see my game of the life process at qor.co.nz)  is the passion for clarity and nobility of mind and life. The quest for the Qor, the mainspring, the One Thing that justifies all existence for me. So, I thought about the place I had visited here in Whangarei called the Quarry. On a high ledge of the old quarry folk in former years have built shapes and walls and arches, now lying in the weeds like ancient ruins. I was inspired to resurrect this place as a place of philosophy art and and ferrocement…

My philosophy school wld be western systematic, peripatetic, i suppose – my take on it of course! Modules are probable, some have a book by me or another; some I would write the book of as I got into the teaching of it and responded to what came up:
How to reset your life. ‘Red Pill or Blue Pill?’: (see my post https://wizardofeutopia.com/2013/10/20/philosophy-is-the-red-pill/)  Philosophy as ‘zooming out’ from your life and seeing the thought systems that run it as a limited whole… taking the Red pill, and looking afresh at everything you know and believe – especially at the parts that are under greatest strain, which are causing you the greatest pain… So, existentially driven, not just dry theory.
i might provide sensory deprivation tanks for keen red-pillers… 🙂
How to be creative (and thrive in the ‘New Economy’). Applying the process diagram to the creative process, in the Web and the Workshop. Networking, crowdsourcing, co-creating, rapid prototyping, bootstrapping, googling. The concepts of qorflow.com.
Process and Reality the ‘tree of Life’ and the phases of process; chaos and complexity theory; the timeless reality of ‘wonderful absolutes’ underpinning all process. Peirce’s Three Universes (the Activerse Possiverse and Necessiverse).
Nietzsche’s Zarathustra and the Possible HumanHow to become ourselves.

The Wisdom of the (True) West – our thought heritage and why it’s worth saving. How to start a Renaissance…
Fiction and philosophy. How imagining a different life and World can change yours.
‘Love is a many-splendoured thing’. Reflections on C.S. Lewis’s The Four Loves. How to avoid the fatal misconceptions about Love and avoid a lot of pain – and maybe find ‘True Love’. How to use the Tree of Life diagram to easily love everybody, including yourself.
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance –  the core concepts of Quality – Romantic/Classic/Static/Dynamic – in Robert Pirsig‘s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Lila. Reflections on living dynamic lives of Quality.
Does God exist? What do  or can we mean by ‘God’? What are the arguments for God’s existence? For new definitions of God?
Meditation, Mindfulness and happiness.  Using the Qor Tree of Life board to meditate in any level and aspect of life. ‘Happiness – it’s Now or never’.
Finding your Purpose in life. Discover your process profile; your unique distribution of life energies.
you name it, i could lead a philosophical inquiry into it…
I think the Quarry in Whangarei may be the place to start…. ideally in the Upper Level, if the necessary permissions were obtained:
what do you think? isnt it so… Greek? i can imagine Plato here…
Meanwhile i am slogging away trying to catch up with my life in the maddening details of where how and what…
my old problem of too much, too many…  Ah, physician, heal thyself; philosopher, simplify thyself!

Vitruvian pair carved

It hasn’t been a month?! it has. I have been nup to more than just carving this, but it did take quite a long time. I ended up making in two pieces, and the boat rocks if on a smooth surface… It’s a kind of meditation on the Balance now…

stretched vitruvians 19 07 13 copy

This is a picture of the wax model only. It’s actually blue wax, but in photoshop I found the inverted image looked quite like bronze. It’s more detailed than it looks here too. The vitruvian circle has the words Love Beauty Truth Freedom engraved on the underside in reverse so it acts as a stamp. Ship is hollow so small items can be put in it. The little figure in the bows represents the pharithi, the little folk who are sailing from Aeden seeking Avalon, in Volume IV of the Apples of Aeden. (Now available as ebook, first edition/draft, at smashwords:  https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/320474 The couple represents Korman and the Lady, with korman holding the Heartstone aloft.

Yet to be cast in bronze, and a mould made for more castings. At about 100mm by 110 it’s bigger than the jewellery pieces, and the cost quoted by the jewellery castings place sent me scurrying back home to ‘think about it.’ I found another foundry – a one man band and he estimated a lower price, so I will trundle down to south auckland when i can and meet the man at his little foundry (Flux Studio). He can do bigger pieces too… hmm. Though I dont like the idea of all that copper etc just sitting in an artwork. It’s liable to be melted down one day for cannon, like some renaissance bronzes were… and countless aztec gold and silver artworks of course.

So, if you find yourself coveting a bronze of the vitruvian Pair for your desk or bedside, email me, pay a modest sum, to be sorted,  and I can get the mould. Ok, first one i will do for NZ$149/US $119 plus postage…  After that depending on cost to get cast, probably US$279
